Title: hosting and the dreaded "IRS"
Post by: bajagirl1 on December 01, 2011, 08:52:22 AM
We are starting our first year of hosting in the summer 2012. Will we be required or will the Oregon Fish and Game (hatcheries) be reporting our volunteer time? Not really sure if I am supposed to report the hours of volunteering or the fact that they are providing free accommodations that may or might not be tax implied or deductible? Has anyone every had their volunteer work reported to "Uncle Sam"
Thanks, Donna

Probably not.  When we volunteered at a BLM campground in California, we never got a 1099 from them, nor did we report anything to the IRS.  And, since Oregon doesn't have a state income tax, I'd be surprised in you'd receive anything from them.

A phone call or e mail to the people you will be working for will let you know for sure, but there are many hosting jobs that workers are not given a 1099 for. Good luck.

Happy RVing. 8) ;D
